The Technology Support Specialist works as part of a team to deliver the front-line IT support to the McLean School community (students, faculty, staff and parents), answering in-person requests, responding to phone calls and support tickets, resolving and documenting issues or escalating to others, as appropriate. The Technology Support Specialist assists with the configuration, maintenance, and support of school-wide IT infrastructure as well as end-user software and hardware. The Technology Support Specialist reports to the Director of Technology Innovation. This job reports on-campus and is not a remote position.
Responsibilities
Respond in a timely manner to support requests received via ticketing system, email, telephone, and in-person visits.
Support and train users in the use of a large variety of hardware and educational software applications.
Troubleshoot and repair all school software and hardware including MacBook’s, PCs, Chromebooks, iPads, interactive whiteboards, TVs and printers.
Manage, support, configure queries, create reports and train the school community in a variety of software and database systems.
Perform basic G Suite administration.
Perform basic Active Directory and Windows Server administration.
Create and maintain up-to-date documentation and training materials.
Oversee the School year device and software roll-over process over the summer.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Technology Innovation, which may include occasional weekend and evening hours.
Competencies
Expert knowledge and experience in configuration and troubleshooting of computer hardware and operating systems including MacOS, Windows, Chrome OS, and iOS.
Expert in G Suite cloud computing, productivity and collaboration tools.
Familiarity with G Suite administration.
Strong organizational skills with a close attention to detail and the ability to move among multiple tasks and projects with ease, maintaining multiple priorities and deadlines.
Ability to communicate verbally and in written context in a friendly, professional, and timely manner with students, faculty, staff, and parents.
Familiarity with software distribution and mobile device management platforms, JAMF experience preferred.
Basic Active Directory and Microsoft Windows Server administration experience.
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office 365.
Basic knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud Suite.
Experience with Student Information Systems, Blackbaud experience preferred.
Basic knowledge of Ethernet switches and wireless access points.
Basic knowledge of PBX and VOIP telephone systems.
Ability to learn new software applications quickly and to teach others how to use them.
Ability to create training and documentation materials.
Ability to manipulate databases and spreadsheets for information gathering and reporting.
Qualifications - Required
Minimum of 1 years of full time equivalent work experience in technology support.
Comfort working with students, teachers, parents and administrators on a day-to-day basis.
Ability to work onsite Monday through Friday from 8am to 4:30pm during regular school and after school hours.
Qualifications - Preferred
Prior experience and/or exceptional ability in interacting with elementary, middle, and high school age children.
Knowledge of Blackbaud Student Information System
Prior experience with G Suite administration.
Prior experience managing databases and spreadsheets.
Basic scripting skills, such as Python or shell scripting.
CompTIA A+ certification or equivalent is a plus.
