Position Description:
Burgundy seeks a dynamic and fun-loving part-time Spanish and French teacher for our early childhood grades, Junior Kindergarten - Grade One. We are looking for a teacher who enjoys children ages 4-7, who has genuine interest in world languages and cultures, and who can tap young children’s natural curiosity and joy in discovery. Applicants with experience teaching integrated, culturally based and hands-on curricula are desirable. Our Early Childhood World Language program offers students an exposure to French and Spanish language and culture and prepares them for our lower and middle school programs where students select one language for the remainder of their studies. The teacher reports to the Lower School Head.
The qualified candidate will have:
Genuine love of learning and desire to work with children as a facilitator of learning
A degree with a major in Elementary Education, Spanish, French or a related field
An ability to help students develop a joy for language learning
Collaborative spirit; interest in team-teaching and planning
Good oral and written communication skills
Ability to organize and manage a positive classroom grounded in a belief that all learning begins with attending to children’s developmental social and emotional needs
An interest in teaching a student-centered, inquiry-based curriculum that responds to student interest and need
Commitment to teaching diverse learning styles and differentiated instruction
Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusivity, both in teaching and in your work with colleagues and families
Interest in outdoor, hands-on and environmental education
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Maintain an emphasis on preparing students for the joys and challenges of learning
Participate in curriculum development, committee, and task force work
Perform necessary administrative tasks and attend required meetings and events
Engage in reflective practice and various professional growth activities
Hours:
The hours for this position are somewhat flexible. The position ranges from 25-33% time.
While small in number, some before and after school responsibilities come up during the academic year, in addition to weekend events.
The School is closed for most national holidays, as well as Winter and Spring Break.
Salary:
Salaries are based on a competitive independent school scale with increases for advanced degrees and experience; $2000 step increase for master’s degree.
