The School Nurse is responsible for managing and implementing the school health program, which is consistent with the State of Maryland regulations governing school health and nursing practice. The Nurse will work as part of the Front Office team reporting to the COO/CFO and in close collaboration with the Head of School and other administration and faculty members.
Responsibilities
Administer and document student medications.
Oversee and participate in caring for sick and injured students, including injury reports.
Track and record any information about COVID infections within the WES population and update vaccine/booster information for faculty/staff and students.
Manage speech, hearing, vision, and scoliosis screenings of students.
Update and manage all health and medical records through the Magnus app.
Design and implement health education curriculum.
Serve as a medical resource for faculty members (flu and other shots, testing, etc.).
Facilitate first aid, CPR, EpiPen, and other emergency medication training for faculty and staff and orient new faculty and staff to medical policies and procedures.
Manage the infirmary and the supplies for health care, including first aid kits for field and study trips.
Participate as a member of the Front Office team and assist as needed.
Update and manage school policies and procedures consistent with CDC, Montgomery County, and COMAR.
Complete all Montgomery County and Maryland required forms and be ready for Montgomery County Health Department inspections.
Assist with health and safety responsibilities and training of staff during summer camp.
Communicate and collaborate with parents of students with food allergies, medical issues, and those requiring special assistance before the start of school and during the academic year.
Complete necessary immunization surveys and other government reports.

Professional Responsibilities and Development:
Attend workshops and conferences (such as AIMS, AISGW, NAEYC, and NASN) to remain abreast of current research and best practices.
Attend school/staff meetings and school-provided professional development workshops.
Act as a member of the Health & Safety Committee.
Attend school events as required by the Head of School.
Assist with other duties as needed.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates are detail-oriented, energetic, and creative and possess an excellent sense of humor and a positive attitude. They have strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. They will think strategically and can work collaboratively.
Bachelors of Science in Nursing from an accredited College of Nursing (RN degree).
State of Maryland Nursing License or ability to obtain before start.
Current CPR and First Aid certifications
4-5 years in an acute or outpatient setting with a Pediatric focus.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience as School Nurse or in summer camp medical management.
