Connelly School of the Holy Child seeks an Assistant Head of Development to support the mission of the School by developing and administering fundraising campaigns and events, building strong relationships with donors and prospective donors, and cultivating a strong base of support in our community.
The Assistant Head of Development is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the operations of the Development Office while planning, organizing, directing, and executing the Fund for Holy Child and supporting the major gifts program. The Assistant Head of Development has both an internal and external-facing role, responsible for cultivating, stewarding, and soliciting donors while fostering constructive working relationships with the development team and wider faculty and staff to ensure the smooth achievement of development goals.
The Assistant Head will work closely with the Head of Development to deliver Holy Child’s development goals and set the standard for best practice philanthropy in an independent school environment.
The Assistant Head reports directly to the Head of Development and will have a supervisory role over several team members. This is a full-time in-person position.

Responsibilities:
- Fundraising
- Coordinate the annual giving operations to ensure annual metrics are achieved on time and within budget.
- With the support of the Fund for Holy Child Manager, oversee all aspects of The Fund for Holy Child with an expectation to be data driven and have the ability to be responsive throughout the year if corrective actions are needed to meet goals.
- Collaborate with the marketing & communications team to write, design, and create materials to support annual giving efforts, including direct mail and email appeals, impact reports, the annual report, website content and social media posts.
- Recruit and manage Fund for Holy Child volunteers for all constituencies with timely updates, clear guidance and positive encouragement.
- Develop and grow relationships with leadership gift prospects through phone, email, video call, and face-to-face meetings.
- Coordinates with the Head of Development to support the Mayfield Society and campaign outreach.
- Manage the Holy Child Partners Program to engage corporate support.
- Stewardship
- Design and implement, in partnership with the Head of Development, a creative and segmented stewardship program to strengthen and build long-term relationships with constituents including the Mayfield Society, first-time donors, leadership donors and the Legacy Society.
- Manage content and coordinate production of Annual Report and other Development publications
- Data Management
- Oversees the Development Operations to ensure data entry is accurate, stewardship is continuous and personalized, outreach is targeted and all constituent groups are meaningfully engaged.
- Collaborate with colleagues on reunion fundraising.
- Events and Committees
- With the support of the Special Events and Parent Programs Manager, oversee logistics for stewardship and special events including the Head of School Recognition Dinner, Leadership Reception, Fund-A-Tiger Gala Reception, Grandparents & Special Friends Day, Mayfield Market and the Gala as well as the HCPA Events.
- Serve as an ambassador for Holy Child, representing the school at internal and external events as needed.
- Committee and Meeting Support
- Manage the HCPA Executive Board in Coordination with the Head of Upper School and Middle School including supporting Coffee and Conversation presentations.
- Establish a student club to both bridge the student and alumnae communities and to bring greater understanding of philanthropy at Holy Child.
- Attend Development Committee meetings and take minutes as requested; update and share presentation materials as directed by the Head of Development; assist with scheduling of meetings.
- Maintain minutes Department meetings.
- Bachelors’ degree or relevant work experience, including five years experience working in fundraising. The ideal candidate will have experience working in development in an independent school.
- Proven track record of closing four- to five-figure gifts, upgrading current donors and increasing participation to meet or exceed fundraising goals.
- Strong command of fundraising principles, best practices, and trends.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Familiarity with Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge.
- Experience with graphic design such as Adobe Creative Suite or Canva, preferred.
- Excellent written communication skills.
- Ability to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations, to demonstrate group presentation skills, and to conduct meetings.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently, handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work effectively and relate well with others including superiors, colleagues, donors, volunteers, and other individuals inside and outside the School — the ideal candidate exhibits a professional manner in dealing with others whether communicating in person, on the phone or by email, and works to maintain positive and constructive working relationships.
